Praying For Your Children

If you are joining me because you saw my article about Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner, welcome to my blog. I am so thankful you stopped by to visit. Please leave me a comment, I would love to get to know you more!

When I first began to spend time with Christian women, they asked me if I prayed for my children. Well, that offended me a bit. Of course I prayed for my children. Doesn’t everyone? Did I seem like someone who did not pray for my children? I prayed for my children…every day…well, maybe not everyday…well, at least every few days…well, I prayed when I remembered…for their health, their behavior, their school work, and the like.

However, as my heart grew closer to God, and I learned more about prayer, my prayers for my children changed. God taught me WHAT to pray…things I never ever thought to pray for them. In this post, I want to share with you what God taught me.

Heavenly Father, Creator of every good and perfect gift. Thank You for entrusting me with my precious children, Lauren and Bo. Father, I commit these children to you, and I pray that my children will…..

receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior

love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength

commit their lives to make Jesus Lord

fear the Lord

learn to pray and praise Your Name, the Name above all names

have thankful hearts

know who they are in Christ

be protected from the evil one by the blood of Jesus physically, spiritually, and emotionally

love the Word of God

learn to hate sin and love righteousness and holiness

believe their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit

glorify God in their bodies and remain pure until marriage

find healthy, edifying, godly, and wise friendships

walk in the wisdom of the Lord

know the joy of the Lord

seek to please God and God alone, not themselves and not others

maintain a deep devotion to Jesus and Him alone

find the godly mate God is preparing for them even now

grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man

I ask this in the powerful Name of Jesus Christ My Lord, AMEN.

Thank you, precious friend! I do pray on a daily basis for my boys, and the prayers are specific, but I had not been praying the scriptures like this. Love this!! God knew that I needed this one! Oh, and I read your earlier post…so excited that your time in Chicago was a blessing! Isn’t it amazing how God uses everything to His good??

    Hugs!
    Susan

THANK YOU!!!! I am going to send this out to my mommy friends!!

  3. Joy in The Truth says:

Love these prayers! Love your heart for prayer and for your family. So lovely.

I have started keeping a family prayer journal of prayers that I pray for my family — all scripture — as I come across them in my quiet time. It’s priceless to me. And a record of my heart prayers to Him.

I love your prayer guides and am going to use them! :) Thank you!

    Hugs to you!

    Beautiful Wendy. Precious.

Just want to share one more thing I pray for my son: wait on the Lord to awaken love in His time (having an almost 17 year old this is a fervent prayer right now!).

    Thanks for sharing your prayers.
    Blessings,
    Joy

    Wendy,

My 17 year son was in the car today when the next P31 mag. came out. His eyes caught the sight of your daughter and he was so cute. He put his finger on her hair as he gently stroked it. Then said “hey girl can I get your number”. He was joking because he would never ask a girl like that. He and the 15 year thought she was beautiful. She looks just like you. Your guys are handsome men. I enjoyed the article you wrote. So if she wants a pen pal he is willing to give her someone to write to.
He recently enlisted to go to the Marines next summer as soon as he graduates.
    Blessings,
    Diane

Hey Wendy, thanks for the visit. It made my day :)
This is something I definately need to do more of. I do pray daily for my children and every evening before we go to bed and again with my husband. But it is pretty generic. That the lord would keep them safe and that they would grow up to love Jesus. I knew I really need to step it up a notch. I haven’t prayed using scripture before. I am so glad you posted about this. I’ve been saved for 4yrs and I still have so much to learn. I am glad I found you. I linked to you on my site under “Thoughts on God” in hopes that my other bloggy friends will stop by and benefit from the wisdom the Lord has gifted you with. Thanks again. You are such an encouragement.

I have found myself growing in what and how I pray for all my boys… and God has provided!!! It has been so amazing to His grace upon our family and each of us individually… I will be coming back to re-read your prayers – thank you so much for the encouragement!!! Rhonda :D

  10. Mags says:

Thank you for sharing. What discourages me from praying intensely is I feel there is so much to cover in such a short period of time. My girls are young and I get overwhelmed at times realizing our country is heading south rapidly. This encourages me to start where I am and let God take the lead…once again.

  11. Kate says:

I need to just print that out. Thank you so much!

  12. Tami and Bobby Sisemore Family says:

THAT was an amazing message! Thanks :) I am praying that for my 20 year old Celeste, my 2 year old Noah and my 1 year old waiting for me in Taiwan Jeremiah! Please pray for Jeremiah, he has severe cerebral Palsy and we need to get him home quickly!

    Blessings,
    Tami

This is so great Wendy. I do pray for my children a lot, but not as in depth as you have outlined here. I will put these into practice for sure. Thanks for your encouraging words!

  14. Jan K says:

I am a born again believer who didnt find the Lord till 47 yrs old so my children grew up without the Lord. One of them found Christ and is now planning to marry a beautiful Christian girl in August. My other two children 23yrs and 25yrs do not believe in Christ and are very against Him. It breaks my heart they are like this but I do pray for them daily that God opens their hearts to Him, thats all I can do, isn’t it?

  15. Wendy Blight says:

Jan, it is NEVER too late to pray for your children! And our God can redeem every life…no matter their circumstances or the state of their heart. I pray the Lord will make your children’s hearts tender to His Word. I pray that He will open the eyes of their hearts to see His activity in lives of those around them. I pray He will give them ears to hear Truth. I pray He will place people in their lives who know and love you and give those people favor in their eyes. I pray you will feel no pressure or guilt about this but that you will simply surrender them to the Lord and trust Him to answer the cry of your heart. I can’t wait to see what God in His faithfulness does. Remember He does not desire that even one will be lost!!!

    Blessings to you,

    Wendy

  16. Lou says:
