Meet New Author Marilynn Chadwick with Giveaway

Hi friends,

Yesterday was the first Monday in weeks that we did not meet together to study Hebrews.  To all my on-line Bible study girls, I miss you so much and cannot wait until we begin our next study in April!  If you are interested in signing up for our next on-line study (we will study my book Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner), please register via the on-line studies  and ”Subscribe to Updates” links in the sidebar.

Now let me introduce you to a brand new author and very special friend of mine who joined me for an interview in my kitchen to share about her passion for prayer and her new book.

As you know, prayer is one of my most favorite topics, so it is my pleasure to introduce to you my dear friend, a veteran prayer warrior, and the author of this new book.  Her name is Marilynn Chadwick.  Her book is entitled Sometimes He Whispers, Sometimes He Roars:  Learning to Hear the Voice of God.

Marilynn believes, as do many of you, that God still speaks today.  In this book, Marilynn will help you discover practical ways to make listening to God a natural part of your daily routine.  Her story is about what happens when one ordinary woman decides to pray not only for the needs of her own personal world but also for God’s larger world.  Her personal prayer journey has allowed her to see miracles within her own family, as well amazing miracles as far away as the genocide-torn villages in Africa.

Whether you are new to prayer or have been praying for  years, this book will to take you to deeper and richer places in your prayer life.  Marilynn’s book does not just teach you about prayer, it contains powerful stories and practical methods to grow and transform your prayer life.

Sometimes He Whispers, Sometimes He Roars includes  several special features…

A 21_Day Prayer Experiment

Marilynn’s “Chubby Book” Method

An 8-Week Leader’s Study Guide

Marilynn’s A-List of Prayer Lifeline Scriptures

Let’s meet Marilynn…

Thanks for stopping by today.  Marilynn and I prayed for each one of you who God would bring here today.  We are praying He used her message to encourage you and motivate you to take your prayer life to new level.  Please remember to leave a comment with your thoughts for a chance to win a signed copy of Sometimes He Whispers, Sometimes He Roars.  Please leave your e-mail address so we will know how to contact you!

Blessings,

  4. Toni Smith says:

Thanks so much for introducing this book. This sounds like a book I defintely would like to read….. growing in prayer no matter how long we’ve been praying, is huge :) Thanks so much and God Bless.

  5. Toni Smith says:

Amazing how the tragedy of 911 was turned around and used all for His glory…..Praying for the whole world………..learning to listen for God……… and His whisper.

  6. Lynette says:

Thank you Wendy and Marilyn for the video. Prayer is an area of my life with God that has been lacking. I have finished Wendy’s study on praying so my prayer has improved and is growing but listening today to Marilyn and hearing the name of her book touched me. So the step I am taking for God in developing a more meaningful and spirit filled prayer life is finding a prayer partner to encourage me and keep me committed. I love the POD idea and will use that in my life. Sometime it’s just enough that someone is praying with you in Jesus name without all the details, God know all the details and it is his will and plan I want in all situations. I want a close best friend relationship with Jesus and developing a rich prayer life is what is missing in me for that to happen.

    • Hi Lynette,
I am so encouraged to “hear” the enthusiasm for prayer in your response to the interview. I feel sure you already have such a meaningful prayer life. I hope my book will give you some fresh ideas to go the distance!
      Marilynn

    • WendyB says:

What a great step you are taking. I pray God brings you a prayer partner with a kindred heart like yours. Praying God will do exceedingly, abundantly all you could ever ask or imagine as you begin a fresh new prayer journey with him!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  7. Alex says:

You two are both such sweet and gentle women of God! Thankyou for sharing yourselves with us. I have always dreamed of being a woman of prayer too, and God is faithfully teaching me the power of prayer. I would love to be more ‘organised’ and more ‘disciplined’ in my prayer life. I would love to read Marilyn’s book. Even if I don’t win it today, it’s one I’d love to buy for myself one day anyway. Thanks for sharing.

    • Alex,
I am always hoping to be “more disciplined” too, which is partly why I asked God to give me steps I could follow and still be somewhat spontaneous. Hope the principles we shared will help.
You have the main ingredient of a strong prayer life, the great “want to.”
      Blessings,
      Marilynn

  8. Peggy says:

ohhh Bless you Wendy and Marilyn for such a near to my heart topic and great heart warming video. WOW! Praying for the whole world seems gigantic but I have followed for years OPERATION World and I can so relate to the heart of a sojourner prayer warrior like you both!!! I really love the concept of “whisper” and “roar” of God speaking and us hearing Him. This encourages me and motivates me to go deeper with my prayer life, not just claiming His promises and praying scripture, but learning to make it specific so I can see the answer. I keep thinking that “if only” I would journal or this or that… I would not think my prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling… Great ideas and system! I downloaded a sample and added to my”wish list”…sometimes books and knowing you should read a book just doesn’t wait… and I can’t wait… or couldn’t wait…

Thanks so much for sharing this.
    Love in Christ,
    Peggy
Please PRAY for Yousef Nadarkhani who has been sentenced to death by an Iranian court for converting from Islam to Christianity. He’s guilty of apostasy under Islamic law. Christians like this are being persecuted for their faith. Let’s pray for him and others being persecuted for the faith too many of us take for granted and they are willing and dying for believing in Christ!!!

    • Peggy says:

      Oh I had two questions:
      1) does Marilyn have a blog?
      2) is anyone planning to lead a study with her 8 week study guide? (hint, hint)

      • Peggy says:

never mind to #1…I clicked on her name and found her… thanks!!!

        • Hi Peggy,
I like your term, “sojourner prayer warrior.” That about says it all! You sound like a woman after God’s heart. I, too, have been inspired by Operation World and use it from time to time. In my case, I have chosen to focus on a few nations that I pray for every week. So glad to hear that you are eager to learn more. Aren’t we all? I see you found my blog. And funny you should ask about the eight week study….Just this morning, I asked Wendy how to go about doing that. Not only am I a new author, but I am a novice blogger. So…. with some help and good advice, I do hope to launch a study soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the blog.
          Marilynn

    • WendyB says:

May God give you the desire of your heart as you begin to take new steps on your journey of prayer!! Your prayers are not bouncing of the ceiling, sweet friend. Remember each prayer you pray is a fragrant offering to Him and way for Him to interact with you in your life!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  9. Lisa-Mae says:

I am looking forward to reading your book if chosen. I am looking for ways to enhance my prayer life and to see God moving in my life…whether it be roaring or whispering… Thanks.

  10. Jennifer G. says:

This sounds like a great book! Thanks for the chance to win it!

  11. Susan says:

Thank you both so much for the wonderful introduction — will definitely be getting this book (by luck or purchase). I write my prayers to God each day — kinda like the lady did in THE HELP. It is nice to revisit and mark in red the answers received. Makes a very powerful witnessing tool as well.

I absolutely know that God talks to me … and I have no trouble sharing when he opens a door for that activity.

  12. Dara Gentry says:

    Looks like a wonderful study!!

  13. Stacy says:

I love books like this! I’ve also read Priscilla Shearer’s book “Discerning the Voice of God.” It’s amazing how you can hear God if you only know what to listen for.

  14. Erin says:

    Can’t wait to read this!

  15. Sharon McGee says:

This book sounds wonderful. I’m battling cancer and prayer is a constant for me and I’m blessed to be uplifted by so many praying with/for me.

  16. Lori Lindsey says:

My prayer life has improved some over the past couple of years, but I know this is an area in my spiritual walk that could really use some work! This book sounds amazing:)

  17. Yolanda says:

Yes, I would so love to read this!! Yes, I believe I was led to find this blog today!!

    frog0331@msn.com

  18. Carol says:

I’ve been in the storm & the Master has whispered: “Peace, Be Still!” Looking forward to reading your book.

  19. Brittany says:

this sounds like a very inspirational book! would love to have a signed copy!!

  20. Yvette C says:

Just this morning in prayer I was asking God to teach me to pray and here I stumble across this post. Sometimes prayers can become repetitive and mundane, therefore I’m seeking a deeper, and richer prayer life. This book not only has an eye catching title, but it may be just what I need to give me that extra push!

    • WendyB says:

Yvette…no accident that God brought you here. He knew the cry of your heart and answered our prayers to draw women hear who wanted to go deeper still in prayer with Him. Praising Him for answered prayer!!!

  21. kim johnston says:

I would love to read this book, A prayer life is essential to your Christian walk, and sometimes I struggle with it. I would love to know more about prayer and answers to prayer. Thank you:)

  22. Elizabeth says:

Sounds like a life changing read!

  23. Denise Ball says:

I am amazed how God is speaking to me right now. I just went to my first women’s retreat this past weekend where I had a very convicting and touching moment from the Holy Spirit to change my life. It was a moment like nothing I’ve had since I was first saved 20+ years ago. A moment telling me it’s time to really choose a life in Christ or a life in the world! The retreat was on prayer! My daily parenting devotional Sunday was on prayer, Monday’s was on hypocrisy (my true conviction over the weekend) & today I see this book! I think right now God is roaring at me and I’m fearing him enough to listen!
    God Bless

    • WendyB says:

Denise, I agree God is roaring!! He must have some amazing work He wants to do in and through you as you go deeper still in prayer with Him. We are blessed to be a small part of His “roaring” in your life. :)

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  24. Gayle Caldwell says:

The book sounds good and so timely for me.

  25. Christina Fortier says:

My prayer life is a struggle for me right now…so this book looks very intriguing to me. Good subject.

  26. Nadia says:

I love to read books, especially ones that help me grow in my faith and walk with God. I enjoyed watching your clip. The middle east has a special place in my heart. I am always in awe of God, how much He loves us, is there for us, and how He answers our prayers. Would love to have a copy of the book :) Thank you to both of you for serving the Lord!

    • Hi Nadia,
I love that you already have a spot in your heart for the middle east. That seems to be the way God works when He wants us to pray for a certain area. Our dear brothers and sisters in the faith who happen to live in the middle east need much prayer now. I feel sure God has given you a special burden to pray for them (and others) for such a time as this!
      Blessings,
      Marilynn

  27. Tana J says:

I loved the video explanation. Thank you for introducing us to this book, it sounds great and I would love to read this. I’m currently participating in an online bible study (A Confident Heart) and I am learning to connect more with God and how/when to pray.

  28. Abbey says:

This looks like just the book I need! I have really been struggling with my prayer life. I would love to dig into this!

  29. elizabeth says:

I have always wanted to keep a prayer journal sounds like this book would have some great encouragemnt to pray. I have really been struggling with seeing God work and could use some encouragement

    • Hi Elizabeth,
I hope you’ll find some simple ways to encourage your prayer life. God’s even more eager than you are for prayer “come alive.” It’s great that we can all encourage each other. Let us know if you discover any “prayer tips” of your own.
      Blessings,
      Marilynn

  30. Kerri says:

Thank You so much for introducing this book! I have struggled over a year now to hear God speak to me so this book is going to be wonderful !!!!!! :D

  31. Rebekah says:

Hi, Looking forward to get this book I am dealing with losing my grandparents less than a year. They both meant the world to me.

    • WendyB says:

I am so sorry for your loss. Praising God He gave you such wonderful grandparents. May He fill that empty place in your heart with His comfort and His love!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

    • Rebekah, I am so sorry you lost both grandparents in the same year. They must have been such special people. You might be interested to know that I began to write book the very day we lost my husband’s 91 year old father. Dr. Howard Chadwick, or “dad,” was our children’s beloved grandfather and a minister for over 65 years. In many ways, he was the inspiration behind the book. Wouldn’t it be special if he and your grandparents are getting acquainted in heaven?
      Warmly,
      Marilynn Chadwick

  32. Sheila says:

I believe that God still speak’s today just like he always has.I believe in prayer too and I know that sometimes God say yes and sometimes it no and sometimes it’s not right now so I trust that God will take care of me always!I would be glad to read your book ,any thing to help with a fresh new insight on prayer would be great!
    Thank you

  34. LoveNeverFails says:

    Hi Wendy,

Just got through re reading a study on discernment and then I saw this post on the Proverbs 31 minstries facebook site and thought I’d swing by.

I would be thrilled to win a copy of this new book!

I would first like to highly encourage anyone who has gone through any kind of abuse to read Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner. This book has helped me a lot and I will do the study again.
You were such a blessing to me.

Wendy, I would appreciate you praying specifically for me the next few days as I have been witnessing to my rapist who is in a nursing facility but moreso that you would pray for him to accept Jesus.Thank You.

    • WendyB says:

Thank you for such sweet words of encouragement about Hidden Joy. And, yes, I am praying right now for the Lord to surround you with His ministering angels as you take this beautiful step forward. God is so pleased with your heart of forgiveness and obedience… to set aside all the pain from your past to pray for this man who hurt you deeply. I join you in praying the Lord will reveal himself to this man in such a personal and real way that he will say “Yes” to Jesus and to salvation.

Please let us know what happens!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

    • LoveNeverFails, if it’s alright, I have added you to my prayer list as well as you minister to this person.

      Blessings,
      <3 Heather

  35. Karen says:

Congratulations on your new book Marilyn. Can’t wait to read and study from it!

  36. Oh, so much to learn about prayer. Why does it seem so hard sometimes?! This book sounds so practical and encouraging.

  37. AbigaiL says:

I would love to read this book. Thank you for sharing! :)

  38. Ruth says:

I would love to know how to really pray and know that i have heard or listened. After loosing my son to Hodgkins lymphoma in Oct. 2008, I have the need to know more.
    Ruth

    • WendyB says:

Ruth, I am so sorry cancer took your precious son. May God continue to minister to you in this hurting place in your life. Your loss has given you a special gift of compassion that many people do not have, and I pray He will open doors for you to minister to and share that precious gift.

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  39. Sharon says:

I long to hear God’s voice. Would love to read this book!

  40. Kristi S says:

Thank you so much for posting. This past year has been quite a spiritual journey. I have seen firsthand how prayer can change the course of one’s life. It is my wish to continue to grow ever closer to Jesus and to make my prayer life more effective. Very excited about this book!

  41. Jacqui says:

God definitely speaks today – you just need to learn to recognize his voice. Marilynn’s book sounds like a big help in that direction.

  42. Jennifer says:

Just the title of this book grabs my attention especially because I am in the hardest season of my life right now…a place I never thougt I would be. This is the first time I have literally called it a season, but in reading that title, it reminds me that during this time of pain, I have heard him like never before. Time and time again, He leads me to scriptures reminding me that this is a season…that redemption, restoration, reconciliaton…is all coming. I don’t understand why I can still get so down and so afraid when He is clearly speaking to me of promises He has made for me and my family…I want to fully soak in His truth…be it the whispers or the roars, and I want doubt and fear to be drowned out, because either way, He is louder. <3

  43. Rosemary Drum says:

    Marilyn,
I have been struggling for the past year on longing to hear Gods voice.
Waiting on God has been my path for a long while and I desperately need his direction.
Your book is something that very much intrigues me. I am in need of guidance!
    God bless you,
    Rosemary

  44. Nancy says:

What a timely post!!! I’ve been praying around this very thing and now, here’s my answer from God in finding out about your book! Can’t wait to get home so I can look into finding (and getting) it. God bless!!! =)

  45. Karla Hobbing says:

I Believe! I look forward to learning more from your book. God bless your ministry.

  46. Heather says:

Prayer, such a small word for such a powerful thing. When my son was diagnosed with cancer I learned how powerful it really was. I continue to pray and sometimes try to just be quiet and listened. The problem lies with me. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. What does God want me to do with the things he has taught me? I keep thinking surely I’m missing something. I feel lost, but never alone. I keep saying Lord I’m slow, text me, I’m not seeing it:) I look forward to reading this and finding direction.

  47. Wow! I cannot WAIT to order this book! I absolutely LOVE prayer, being able to converse with my Creator whenever and whenever I want is such an incredible blessing. It just blows me away that the Lord of all creation not only wants to hear from me, but wants to talk to me too. {Be still my beating heart!}

I love the Chubby Book idea, I have a little spiral I keep in my purse to write down prayer requests or I write it on a note card with a bit of scripture to put in my pocket for “bigger” or ongoing prayer requests. I look forward to taking this to the next level by doing a better job of following up by writing in how God has answered those prayers. I’m not the most organized person in the world, so we’ll see how that goes!

I also just love what you said about prayer triggers. I am a visual person and those little cues make a world of difference for me. I have two special things I’ve been praying for every time I see M&Ms ;) and I have a bit of string on my wrist for an ongoing request from one of my friends. Once I get my Chubby Book going, I think it would be pretty awesome to have a trigger for each one as well.

I could go on and on, but I’ll just stop now and say THANK YOU soooo much for this post! I really do look forward to ordering your book and I hope Wendy will have you back again soon :) .

    <3 Heather
    {I'll send you my email if you need it}

    • Hi Heather, It sounds like you are well on your way to a wonderful prayer life. We must think somewhat alike. One reason I wrote the book is because I need all kinds of help to keep me focused on prayer throughout the day. Guess I am visual, too (or maybe a bit ADD). Anyway, thanks again for your kind words. I hope we can continue this conversation. I imagine you’ll have some “tools and training tips” of your own to share with us. SO glad we are on the same team. God has a great desire for His church to pray for this hurting and broken world. As women who love our own homes and families, I think He knows we will pray for His larger family with the same heart.
      Press on,
      Marilynn

  48. Ronda says:

Always excited to have a new book to read and study, especially on prayer.

  49. Emma Bustard says:

    Marilyn
My husband and I believe that we heard a promise from God in 2006. 6 years on and that promise at times seems burnt up in the heat of our emotions. It is hard to be patient, faithful and still enough to let Him fight for us as He promises in Exodus 14:14. The hardest part has been doubting whether it was God’s voice that we heard. This book sounds amazing and definitely a book that I need to read!
Thank you for what I am sure will be an incredible book!
    Emma

    • Oh Emma, My heart resonates with yours. I think waiting on God’s promise can be one of the hardest trials in this life. It takes such energy to patient and keep believing we really DID hear His voice. You are right about letting Him fight for us. And the Bible is full of promises about how to stand on what we have heard. We sure learned this truth in our years of infertility. I even called this season in my life “wait training.” Looking back, it’s where I learning some of my best lessons.
Praying for you as you stand for Him.
      Marilynn Chadiwick

      • Emma Bustard says:

Marilynn thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes, we too are waiting for a child. We believe that 6 years ago, God gave us the promise of a daughter and also gave us her name. In the last 6 years we have hit the proverbial brick wall medically and have been cast aside. We are sure if it is in His will, our Heavenly Physician will deliver us. Despite the heart wrenching emotion, doubts and fears, we too know that we are much more enriched and blessed by this season. It is just that sometimes, your arms get sore and the road seems too long.
God Bless you Marilynn and the sacrifices you have made in writing this book to encourage people like me.

  50. Tracey Kirch says:

This sounds like an amazing book! I definitely have heard the Lord speak to me, both in whispers and roars. I have seen the amazing things prayer can do… I have felt the Lord nudging me deeper and this is like a confirmation of His voice to me.. Thank you and i definitely want to read this book and would love to do a study!!
    God Bless your ministry!

  51. Angela Krogman says:

    Hi,
I just finished a Confident heart book with a group of ladies that I have been helping going through divorce and after. We loved it so much and it helped so tremendouly. RIght now we are doing a book on how to confront and try to live Strife Free but a study on how to hear God’s voice has been much of discussion. So many say to me…. ” I don’t hear the Lords voice like you do , ANgie ” I say, He is speaking because God is no respector of persons, then explain how to hear from God. I think your new book will be a really good Next study … I am so excited about it… I really feel as if the Lord had me click on a facebook post from Proverbs 31 just for this today..

    Thank you so much,
I have felt the LOrd calling me to share my story and my life with others and your testimonies have helped me have the courage to do so…

    ANgie

  52. Cheryl Paul says:

This topic is dear to my heart.

  53. Megan G says:

Thanks for highlighting this book. I would love the opportunity to read it. I really need to focus on prayer and hearing what He is saying to me.

Thanks, Megan (megangaddis (at) gmail (dot) com

  54. Barbara Attaway says:

Thank you for introducing this lovely lady to us. I am looking forward to reading her book. As a Sunday School teacher, my class and I resolved for 2012 to strive to become more like the Proverbs 31 woman. First on the list is seeking a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ. One of the most effective ways is through prayer. Each Sunday I use information gleaned from you ladies for inspiration and encouragement for the class. Keep up the good work.

  55. Julie Ramirez says:

This seems to be a struggle for me. Would love to read this book!

  56. Sonja says:

Wow this is something I cannot wait to read…sounds so much like what I need

my past ten months have dealt with loosing my husband of 38 years, packing up a house of 20 years moving, living alone but next door to a daughter and 3 grandkids, dealing with the birth of a grandchild by my oldest daughter, losing my father, and watching my girls struggle with the loss of their daddy plus daily life issues, raising their children, surviving bad days in marrage, and jusy LIFE…

  57. Christine says:

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been reading through the Bible in the Bible in 90 Days schedule and am hearing God regularly, but He is specifically calling me to a a new prayer life. He has introduced me to the book The Circle Maker and this book sounds like it would be great.

  58. Becky says:

I like the idea of the “chubby book” — I have a similar book that has Bible verses that stays in my purse. Prayer to me is as important as the air we breathe. When my Grandmother passed away I found out that each night she prayed for each of her family members by name. As the oldest granddaughter I have tried to pick up that mantle.

  59. Tina says:

I would love to have a chance to read this book :-)

  60. Linda Ketchie says:

Sometimes I have trouble taking God at His word and believing that He really cares what I’m praying about or that He could use me to pray for His people. I would like to go deeper and try to be a prayer warrior. I’m like the man that said, “I believe, help my unbelief.” I am in awe of your prayer life. Would love to read your book and see what happens.

  61. Joy says:

Thank you for sharing this powerful book on prayer with us! I have been a Christian for many years, but have always felt a weakness in my Prayer life. I have been a Caregiver for over 25 years now for my youngest daughter, who was born with microcephalism and slight cerebral palsy. My wonderful husband has a great love for our daughter, and we have been a team raising her. Because of her 24/7 needs, we have never been able to travel very far, as we have not wanted to leave her because she would not understand. It is also very hard for me to get involved in any kinds of Christian ministries, partly due to having to be here so much for our daughter, and partly because I always feel so drained from the lack of sleep I get when she is up in the night. She does attend an adult education program, which is a real blessing for us. But I have come to realize that because of my lack of traveling to anyplace besides California, that I have a hard time picturing the “bigger” world that is around me. I have been hearing this “whisper” from God for a long time now, that I should broaden my world and reach out in prayer to the bigger world, but I am ashamed to say that I have been ignoring the whisper. I do pray for people in my Church, and for those around me, but I would really love to learn how to reach farther out, especially since Prayer is one of the only ways that I can really serve the Lord and take care of my daughter at the same time. I would love to get a copy of your book “Sometimes He Whispers, Sometimes He Roars” and it would be a real blessing to win it. However, I have read so many comments from women on here that I feel really need this book even more than I do, so I am praying that God will lead you to the “right” person to give it to; and I do plan to purchase it as soon as I can. May God bless you for your Servant’s Heart, and may all you do Glorify His Name. <3

  62. Darlene Goodwin says:

Marilynn, your new book sounds wonderful – thank you for writing it. I can’t wait to read it & tell others! (One of my friends calls me “Book Lady” because I often recommend books.) :-)

I am currently transitioning from my Navy career to pursue a calling to full-time orphan advocacy/ministry – and I’ve also given some thought to writing. “Hearing God’s Voice” is one of the topics I’ve considered! I hope we’ll meet one day at a Proverbs 31 event and have the opportunity to discuss it in person.

    God bless you!

  63. Sherry F says:

Sounds like a great book! Can’t wait to read it.

  64. Linda says:

I am very interested in your book. I feel that I need to learn how to be a better prayer warrior. I want to listen for God’s voice.

  65. Joy says:

Thank you, Marilynn, for sharing this powerful book on prayer with us! I have been a Christian for many years, but have always felt a weakness in my Prayer life. I have been a Caregiver for over 25 years now for my youngest handicapped daughter. Because of her 24/7 needs, we have never been able to travel very far. It is also very hard for me to get involved in any kinds of Christian ministries outside of home. Because of my lack of traveling, I have a hard time picturing the “bigger” world that is around me. I do pray for family and friends, but I would really love to learn how to reach farther out, especially since Prayer is one of the only ways that I can really serve the Lord and take care of my daughter at the same time. It would be such a blessing to have a copy of your book. I’d like to start with “So what, or so if?” May God richly bless you for your true Servant’s Heart., and for letting Him use you to inspire other women to pray! <3

  66. angie jaime says:

Thank you for all your insights and ideas. I’m always looking for ideas to help my spirit stay fed. In the past 2 years my life has been turned upside down. Been struggling w/ a husband who us an alcoholic& a very verbally abusive step-daughter. It had broken my heart and my spirit feels drained. But I have hope in the one who saved my soul when I was 18. I love the idea of the “chubby book”, I feel it will help me keep focused. Thank you for your ministry. Sincerely; Angie

  67. I need this book. I have been walking in the spiritual desert for over two years. I want to hear God’s voice, but either He’s been silent or I have missed His voice.

  68. Sherry says:

Cant wait to read this! I need a fresh start in my prayer life right now.

  69. Tammy says:

Oh this book sounds very interesting. Prayer is very dear to my heart but I have to admit there have been times in my journey that I have wondered have I missed out something he whispered ro did He shout and I wasn’t paying attention. I am in a season like that now. But I keep praying because I know He hears me. Blessings on sharing today

  70. Monica H says:

Lists, triggers, prayer list. Helpful ideas.

  71. Miranda says:

Oh I know this is the book I have been looking for . I always feel that my prayers don’t reach god because I am not doing something just right. I would love how to pray for everyone and the ones God puts on my heart and to know who God wants me to pray for. I would love to be a ble to finde a prayer partner. I would love to take the challenge as well. I know this book is for me. Thanks for the video and I think God for Mrs Chadwick writing this book . This is truly an answer for my prayer on learning how to pray sucessfully. I thank God that he heard my prayer on this subject.

  72. Linda Turner says:

Looking forward to reading your book, I often wonder if I am missing what God is saying to me!

  73. Lisa Barnes says:

I need this book. My family suffered a devastating loss two years ago. I felt betrayed by God.I stopped talking to Him because it was just to painful. I am trying to learn to trust Him again. It has not been easy. I think this book would help me on my journey.

  74. Lisa Krahn says:

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies!! I love being inspired by others and their journey with our wonderful Lord!! I have not had an easy time either! I know that its true, that the more time we invest with spenting time with our Father, the closer He Is!! Its still a learning curve for me! I would love to read this book!

  75. Denise says:

Thnnk you for your book and message. For Lent most people give up something. I decided that I would do something instead. I decided to commit more time to God and praying. I did this last year. I felt so much closer to God and to the people I was praying for. Your book has motivated me to pray not only for myself and family but all others in this world. I can’t wait to read your book so that I can find more ways to pray. Thank you.

  76. Angela says:

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a book on a subject that I have been wondering about. May God bless you.

  77. Michelle says:

This sounds like a wonderful book!!

  78. Jodi says:

Wow, I can’t tell you how this blesses me. One week ago today God laid on my heart to ask the 5 women I work with to fast one thing (Lent) and pray for 40 days for our work, there is so much brokenness & the heaviness that is there is unreal. Well when Marilyn was talkIng about more then one in prayer and if you have a whole group how it is like a fire hose! Thank you for that word because with only 7 days down on 40 days I needed to hear that! lvtinker30@aol.com. Jodi

  79. Sherry Smith says:

So much I heard from your video spoke to my heart. Nothing is more safe than being in God’s will…it makes stepping out of our comfort zone lessy scary. I like the concept of the chubby book. I really like prayer triggers. My cousin has taught me about whisper prayers…prayer triggers enhances that. I look forward to reading this book.

  80. debbie pete says:

Sounds like a needed book. I am looking forward to reading it

  81. Lakeisha says:

Wow, God is so good. “PRAY” is my word for this year and every time I turn around He is showing me how to pray. I can’ t wait to read your book. For so many years my prayers were simply requests to God, selfish prayers of what I needed and wanted. Now I’m learning how to pray, through praying the scriptures. This is very timely for me and I can’t wait for this study.

Wendy, I’m still doing chapter 13 questions because I wanted the study to last a little longer :) thank you for your time and diligence in the Word of God!!!!!!!

  82. Fran says:

This sounds like a fantastic book. I need a book that teaches me about prayer life. I would absolutely be delighted to be able to read this book. I too miss the Bible study.

  83. yanna says:

Love this! Wendy your prayers in our study have so enriched my prayer time. Teaching me how to pray before I open God’s Word. I am excited to meet Marilyn and am thankful you introduced us to her and her book on prayer. Any friend of yours is a friend of mine and I “want to” read and learn more from her about praying.

  84. Hearing the voice of God can be difficult and almost impossible because of our sinful nature. Listening to the Lord and being able to hear his voice in his word, thru prayer and others is a goal I would like to achieve. Thank you for writting this book so I and others can learn to delight in the Lordevery minute of each day.
    Patty

  85. EILEEN PLANT says:

WOW!!! THIS title really *grabbed me*:). I am currently in *turmoil in our marriage*:(..& yes, i need to hear OUR FATHERS VOICE SO SO BAD. i KEEP CALLING OUT TO OUR FATHER IN DESPERATE NEED. i DO KNOW HE IS WITH ME, YET, I DONT HEAR HIM OR FEEL HIM. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME.

  86. EILEEN PLANT says:

SADLY, I DO NOT HAVE THE BOOK, THE TITLE CAUGHT MY EYE……

  87. Karen says:

Wendy, Thanks for the interview and nice to meet you Marilyn!

I am inspired to try the chubby book method for prayer. I have been wanting to memorize scripture for a while now and how wonderful to combine the scripture with a verse of God’s word.
    Karen

  88. Debra says:

Oh this sounds like an amazing book, and I’d love to win a copy. As a teen I used to write my prayers with dates and then when they were answered Id record those. It was such a wonderful way to connect with God. As an adult i have fallen away from writing my prayers but I still pray. Maybe I’ll start writing them again, after all I do have journals galore in my home. I want to really get back to a better deeper prayer life again,. Thank you Wendy and Marilyn for this opportunity. I can’t wait to have a copy.

    • Debra says:

By the way- after watching I am adding this , I am going to start a chubby book idea, I love 3×5 cards so this is perfect, I have a 3×5 binder with verses and inspirational quotes and i pick it up almost every day and look thru it , now i can add names and events to pray for daily. Thank you. Yay! off to start adding to it now.

    • WendyB says:

How wonderful that your journaled prayers as a child!! I definitely encourage you to start again. You clearly have a deep and abiding heart for prayer if you prayed in such a committed way as a child. God is waiting with arms open wide for you to come back and pray and talk to Him thru the pages of a journal!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

      • Debra says:

Thanks Wendy, There weren’t many prayers but there were a few and what cool results and insights. I just may start again. I have wanted to find a way to keep track of what I am learning and discovering from the different studies and have everything in one place and mix them with prayers to God.

  89. Amy says:

I just LOVE God’s timing! I said a prayer this morning asking for help on becoming more disciplined in my prayer life. I am so looking forward to this. Thank you!

  90. Rita says:

I have already researched book online and can’t wait to dig in deep into inspiring work on prayer. Blessings!!

  91. Jena says:

I do longling to hear God’s Voice when He is speaking no matter if it is by whisper or by roar. I have always struggling for as long as I can remember to hear God’s Voice. I do know that we are His sheeps and the sheep knows His Voice. I do believe if I did hear His Voice more often. I will NOT make so many mistakes in my life because God will safe us from what is ahead. I will love to read Marilyn’s new book “Sometimes He Whispers, Sometimes He Roars”.

  92. Kathy says:

The whisper and roar of God can be discerned as we walk in the spirit and align our desires with God’s. The title of this book will ignite the interest of many Christians who blindly seek God’s will yet are clueless about how to listen to God’s voice. My desire is to be a prayer warrior for others and to know what God’s speaking confirms. The contents of the book will bring inspiration and light as many will find the joy of hearing God’s voice.

  93. Missy says:

Would love to have a copy!

  94. Tracy Sockriter says:

I can’t wait to read this book. Thank you.

  95. Would love to improve my prayer and response life with the Lord!! Thanks for the heads up!!

  96. Terry Springer says:

It isn’t often I read that God still speaks to us today other than thru the Bible. Looking forward to seeing what your book has to say. Congratulations on the courage to write and publish your book!

  97. Meg says:

This book sounds like just what I’ve been looking for! I’ve felt the need to beef up my prayer life but didn’t really know how to go about it. I’ve also always felt at a loss when told to look up or go to scripture – how do you know where to start?? I figured that prayer just wasn’t my gift. I’m looking forward to reading your practical suggestions and applying them in my life! I can’t wait to read it and become more of a prayer warrior!

  98. Olayinka says:

Hi Wendy, I feel blessed every time I see your mail in my inbox because I know that God will surely talk to me through your message and this time was no different. My baby step towards improving my prayer life will be to make my prayers very specific and to also note them down so that I can track God’s answers to my prayers. I hope that I get the book here – please include Nigeria in your prayers for the world. God bless you and your ministry.

  99. Teresa H says:

What a great way to prepare the way for the Lord during this Lenten season…through increased and richer prayer lives!

Thanks to both of you for your ministries…you have touched my life in powerful ways.

May God continue to bless you (and all of us through you!)!!

  100. Angy says:

Look so forward to reading a book that will help me to improve my prayer life! Thanks so much for letting us know about it.

  101. Sonja says:

It does not matter, whisper or roar…I usually do not hear God speak to me…He shows me things, but I am a visual kind of person…maybe I am not quiet enough or long enough to really hear God

but I know this book can only be helpful to me in my life today…
I hope to have a chance to read it … and change my daily pattern of life
    Sonja

    • Debra says:

Sonja know what you are saying, there have only been a few times i have really heard from God so strong;y that I know without a doubt it was Him. I would love to learn more from this book as well. I will add you to my prayer list.

    • WendyB says:

Oh, I think when God opens your eyes to see things visually, He is speaking to you!! He meets us where we are and speaks to us in ways that mean something to us. It is different for everyone. If you sense Him working and intervening in your life, leading you in these visual ways, you are hearing Him speak. Praise God!!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  102. Robin says:

Wow.. what a prayer.. Lord teach me to see myself… others…. and the world… through your eyes..I remember praying this so fervently until about a year ago.. and now am feeling kind of ashamed that I haven’t prayed it lately… Thank you Marilyn for reminding me of this .. I also love the name of your group Women Under Construction.. that sounds just like me.. I would love to read your book..

  103. Kim Reece says:

I question myself as to whether God is speaking to me or am I speaking to me. This is a great topic and l look forward to reading it.

  104. Holly says:

This book sounds wonderful. Am really working on relationship with God. Doing better about prayer in some areas as several friends have cancer. I definitely benefit from clear examples of what/how to do something. I am basically home bound and finances are really tight, but have really been wishing there was something I could do. Perhaps prayer is what God has for me right now.

  105. Andrea Kanfield Tosha says:

I would love to have the opportunity to read Marilynn’s book. God was with me whispering (years past now) when I was in an abusive relationship, but one morning my voice was loud and strong! Even when you think you’re not praying you really are if you’re talking to God or even thinking God hears you, He is always with you. Marilynn’s book would grow my prayer strength and truly feel my relationship with God would just be even closer for my relationship with God can be summed up He is My Best Friend!

  106. Martha T. says:

Thanks for sharing about this book! I think that the small first step I could take is to pray some of the prayers I see in the Bible when I come across them.
I would like to win a copy of the book!

  107. Suzanne says:

I will be purchasing this book in the near future. No need to enter me in the drawing. :) I just wanted to say how awesome it is to hear the heart of others who are called to pray for what God is doing on a global scale. Keep going strong… both of you!

“I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest….” (Isaiah 62:6, NIV)

    Blessings from Western PA!

  108. Christine says:

That video was great! I have really been studying prayer (just read Becoming a Prayer Warrior by Elizabeth Alves) and God has shown me so so much. Ive been praying with my MIT group for the schools and youth groups, but I had no clue about prayer as big as what you spoke of. Amazing!!! I have started using the trigger idea…that’s a great one! Thanks! Beautiful cover.

  109. Jane Berntson says:

I enjoyed your vlog and it reminded me of a prayer journal I received a few years ago (and just recently found) from BGEA, with insights by Billy Graham. The theme of the journal is “Praying for the Nations” . Inside it presents 52 nations with maps and vital statistics and then lists all the other nations in the world.
On the back Billy stated, “A mystery and wonder of prayer is that God often waits until someone asks. I once heard it said that Heaven’s storeroom is full of answers for which no one bothered to ask.”
That statement is very though-provoking and provides a stimulus for me to definitely increase my prayer life globally. I have always prayed for missions and missionaries, but not so much for the nation. Thanks so much for your impelling message.

    • WendyB says:

Jane, I used this same journal a few years ago. It was wonderful, and I learned about many countries that I did not even know existed. It was such a blessing!!!

      W

  110. Elena V says:

I look forward to experiencing God on a whole new level through this book!

  111. Lyn says:

Just this morning I woke remembering the time God roared into my life. I was living a life so far away from Him, but He parted the heavens and said, “I.want.her.”. Fast forward: two years of walking strong with the LORD!

I would love to receive a copy of your book, Marilynn. I am presently learning how to discern His voice in my life. I graduate May ’12 with a Master’s in Military Social Work from the University of Southern California. Not only do I have a relationship with the LORD, He has provided me with great training to serve military families and children. Presently, I am facing a sense of heightened excitement (and anxiety) over where the LORD will lead me after graduation …

    • WendyB says:

What an exciting career you have chosen. May God richly bless the work of your hands and direct your every step as you seek to serve Him in this powerful way. You will make a difference in so many lives. How blessed they will be to have a believer counseling them.

  112. Kareng says:

    Hi Wendy and Marilyn:
God’s timing is perfect, a truth I am trying to hold on to right now as I find myself in a marriage that is in such turmoil, a step-daughter who despises me and has turned our world upside down, the tragic loss of my friend’s husband, turmoil in our school – on and on and on it goes. I want so desperately to be woman who is perpetually and persistantly in prayer. There is a TV commercial that has adults saying when I grow-up I want to be…and many things are said. Well, when I grow up I want to be a prayer warrior like Wendy? So, when and how do I start? My life seems to be in so much turmoil right now I feel as if I am spinning in circles and I am getting nowhere! I want so much more – I am crying out – I am empty right now so, thank you for the encouraging words. I was crying by the end of the video as my heart longs to hear God’s voice, I long to hear and see the answer to what few prayers I can sensibly muster up right now. Thank you1
    Blessings to you both,

    kareng

    • WendyB says:

Hi, sweet friend, God hears the cry of your heart. Sometimes beginning a journey can be so intimidating and everwhelming. That is why Marilynn’s book is so great. It helps you to take baby steps…practical steps..to make a change in your prayer life. Change never comes when we try to do so much at once. Choosing one or two things and committing those to the Lord….that is what brings success! I pray that God will reveal to you the one or two places you can begin to make change. He will be faithful!!!

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  113. Amy says:

Thanks for sharing this book with us! Prayer has always been a struggle for me, but something I know is oh-so-important to God. In January my 19-year-old daughter left for a semester long mission trip to India. Also in January, I committed to being much more faithful in my devotional time and in my prayer time, and I have received such a blessing from that commitment. Of course it’s easy to pray for my family and especially my daughter right now, but I have never been very good at praying for “the world”. I am looking forward to reading your book (I will be ordering it soon) and being challenged to grow deeper in prayer.

  114. Darlene says:

Thanks Wendy & Marilynn for bringing this book to my attention. Two things really dropped into my heart in the video, prayer triggers and the prayer list. I have been trying to strengthen my prayer life and love the idea of triggers. I’ve learned to stop and pray if someone comes to mind suddenly or without prompting but haven’t heard of triggers. Wendy you have taught me through your studies and book on how to pray the word and I’m so thankful that I came across your blog one day. Many blessings to the both of you.

    Darlene

  115. KAY PARRISH says:

I WOULD LOVE TO READ THIS BOOK. I WOULD LOVE TO DO A BIBLE STUDY WITH IT. PRAYER IS VERY VERY IMPORTAND TO ME. GOD BLESS YU AND YOURS KAY

  116. Mary says:

I’ve now got another book added to my “must read” list! This book sounds very motivating and practical. I have been feeling the urge from God to pray more and this may help me put legs to it. I like the idea of the Chubby book and may start there – What a fantastic, portable way to keep prayer in the forefront especiallly since I have many “waiting” minutes that can be used for prayer.
Prayer partners and P.O.D. also intrigues me! I can’t wait to read the book and find other prayer tools and inspiration for my prayer time!

  117. Kwandia says:

This book sounds like an awesome read! I look forward to reading it! :-)

  118. Jessica Rivada says:

What a great book – I love the encouragement to press in deeper to His heart, and to step into new creative ways to pray. I feel like I’m in a new place with my prayer life right now, challenged to dig deeper. Thank you for sharing today, God bless you both.

  119. Stephanie says:

    This book sounds awesome :)

  120. Teresa Henry says:

Prayer is a huge part of my life. In fact I am pretty sure I got the idea from Wendy to give the gift of praying for a person everyday for a full year. This is my third year of doing this. Each year I ask the Lord to show me which 4 people or families he would like me to pray for each day…This has been an amazing experience. I also pray each day for those who God places on my heart. But I am really excited about making a prayer list and adding more prayer in to my day. I am looking forward to reading the book!

Yesterday a dear friend and amazing woman of our community and church passed away. Today I was washing dishes and I said outloud…”I can’t believe she’s gone.” and I heard “She is not gone, she is right here.” (I know she is just hanging out with Jesus right now) Which I then heard “Stop crying over me…and GET TO WORK!” She was a woman who served the Lord through serving the poor, orphans, widowed, hurt and brokenhearted. And she was a prayer WARRIOR! She would want me to put my feet to my faith! Your message reminded me to listen and to take action. Thank you!

    • WendyB says:

Teresa, there is no better gift to give! I have a precious friend named Teresa who has given me the gift of prayer. For the last three years, she has prayed for me and my family. She sends me prayers and verses. She knows when I speak and sends me encouraging texts and e-mails. It is such a blessing to know she is covering me and my family in prayer.

Your gift to these families is something they will always treasure. May God richly bless you for your faithfulness to these families.

      Blessings,

      Wendy

  121. Sheila says:

God is so awesome. On new years day this year instead of making the typical resoultions, the Lord compelled me to pray for specific people on specific days of the week. I work with a group of ladies that are all going through the empty nest period of life and our young adult children and going through challenging times whether it be college, career or newly married and so I am praying for these young people on a specific day of the week. When I shared this with my co-workers they were all so thankful. I asked each of them to bring me a picture of their child and I bought a composition notebook and put their pictures on the inside and made it my prayer journal. I like the idea of the chubby book also. I would really like to read this book.

  122. Cindy Thorpe says:

Great to hear about this book and author. I do believe I need a revival in my prayer life. Thanks for the opportunity to learn about this book. Cindy

  123. Sheila Payne says:

This will be such a blessing. Prayer is something I really struggle with. It sounds easy but it is a challenge for me. I look forward to reading this book.

  124. WendyB says:

My heart is so full as I read your thoughtful, prayerful comments. You have encouraged Marilynn as an author and as a prayer warrior beyond measure. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to share your thoughts, kind words of encouragement, and prayer requests.

I feel so very blessed to call each and every one of you friend.

I wish we could give each and every one of you a book to help you take the steps you need to take to take your prayer life to a deeper place. I say we ENCOURAGE Marilynn to do an on-line study with her book. Go for it, Marilynn!!!

Thank you again for sharing. I love you all and am so thankful for you!!!

    Blessings,

    Wendy

  125. Shirley says:

Thank you for this on prayer. I needed this reminder today as I lost my brother-in-law today at an early age of the 50′s.

    • Debra says:

Shirley I am so sorry for your loss. Father my sister Shirley and her family are hurting and grieving at the loss of their brother husband son. Father please touch them all and bring comfort to them where they need it the most. We dont know why things happen but we take comfort that you are in charge and in control. Thank you Father for being with us everyday every hour and in all situations. You hurt as we do and its in our weakness that you are the strongest. Thank you for the ability to lean on you as we mourn the loss of another but rejoice that they will be with you and we will see them again. We praise your mighty name and glorify you always. In Jesus name we pray Amen.

  126. Lauren Bates says:

Prayer is something I really struggle with. This looks like a great book!

  127. Colleen G. says:

    Good morning Wendy.
    This book sounds amazing!
It was only last night that a family member & I were talking about God speaking to our hearts.
For me it is knowing it is not me, but Him doing the talking! And let me just say that I do alot of talking ; )
    Thanks for sharing this book.
    Happy day – Colleen G.

  128. Lorraine Nyahora says:

    hie Wendy,

You are also such an inspiration to me and I love you Wendy. May God continue to bless you and your work for his kingdom. Please help me what does trusting God means I thought this was simple and I always do it but as I grow spiritually I am finding myself so far away from trusting him and instead I look at my circumstances.

  129. Leigh F. says:

    Wow…I need this book.

  130. Kallen says:

Wendy, Thank you so much for sharing Marilyn’s new book and getting to know her. I have been struggling in my prayer life recently – not knowing what to pray – My first step is to get back into the word and do a word search on prayer to better understand how God wants us to pray and trust him.

    Kallen

I would absolutely love to read this book and learn from it! Thanks for the chance to win a free copy.

  132. Vonnie Kronk says:

I would definitely Love to read this book & learn more on Prayer. I want to understand God’s answers to them as well! I feel that God answered a prayer awhile back But wonder why He has not done it again lately?

  133. Katherine Manning says:

I just ordered her booka and would dearly love to be included in your upcoming study of your book.

  134. Paulette Taylor says:

Hello Wendy and Marilynn. I would really love to read your new book. Right now I really need to hear God’s voice in my life. I am seeking and searching with all my heart. I am going through some very difficult situations in my life and I only want His will to be done. I talk to the Lord many times daily, but I guess I am not slowing down long enough to listen and hear His voice. I will definitely be making specific lists for my own specific needs as well as lists of others, and their circumstances.

Wendy I really enjoyed the Hebrews study, and I am looking forward to our next study.

    In Christs Love,

  136. Kris C says:

Prayer seems like such a simple topic, and yet at different seasons of life, it can seem challenging or difficult to remain faithful to; I am always looking for new resources to keep my prayer life fresh and to help me expand it beyond the basics.

What a blessing to be able to have this book on my iPad Kindle. Just started reading last night. This will be a great help to me in leading a group study in our church, as soon as God approves.

The Bible Study in Hebrews has been a great blessing. for me. Thanks Windy. I have your book also on kindle, HIDDEN JOY IN A DARK CORNER.

All of this began when one friend sent me your daily Proverbs31 devotional.

  142. Kim Walker says:

This book goes along with exactly what I am studying right now. I am re-visiting Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby. We did the study in our church several years back and I did not finish the study so I am now doing it on my own time. My lesson today was on how to hear and know God’s voice. I sometimes am not sure if I am hearing God’s voice or my own due to something that I want to do or feel needs to be done. I know that in order to hear and know God’s voice that my relationship with Him must become deeper and more intimate so I am trying to spend more time in God’s word and in prayer. I would love to read your book and love reading the Proverbs 31 posts daily.
