Today I am excited to introduce you to one of my Proverbs 31 sisters, Lynn Cowell. Lynn has a new devotional book for teens, Devotions for a Revolutionary Year. Devotional books fill the shelves of Christian bookstores. On-line web sites offer their fair share as well. I am sharing Lynn’s devotional with you today because I know her heart for teen girls. God has given her a true giftedness to speak to and minister to teens. This devotional book will speak in powerful ways to the young women in your life.
Lynn has stopped by today not only to share a bit about the devotional with you but also to give you a taste of what it has to offer through her Seven Day Faith Builder.
The Most Important Mistake a Mom Can Make
Do you ever worry about the young women in your life? Your daughter, niece or granddaughter? The girl at your son’s school or the one who sits next to you in church?
You see the choices she makes. You watch the way she dresses, the friends she keeps or the empty look in her eyes and you feel concerned; worried even. You wonder, “What will her future hold?”
I, too, am that mom, aunt and mentor in the church and I’ve asked myself, “What’s missing?”
Growing up, I knew I could count on one thing every morning. My mom would be in the living room, Bible in her lap, spending time with Jesus. Witnessing her consistency quietly spoke of the importance of this time. Without knowing it, she was mentoring me through her example.
Heading into junior high, my youth pastor asked me to be a part of the leadership team. There was one non-negotiable commitment: you had to spend 30 minutes a day reading God’s word. Since I had seen my mother doing this each day, the commitment didn’t seem unusual. That’s what Jesus followers did, right? So from the age of 13, I began my own discipline of spending time with Jesus.
Probably not able to define it then, now I can look back and see the impact my mom and my pastor had on me. I see the foundation they instilled by teaching me to be a woman of the Word.
In the days when Sunday School is all but a thing of the past, I worry if as moms we are making a very important mistake. Are we missing teaching the girls in our lives the importance of daily time in God’s word?
As a mom and a mentor of teen girls, I know that my role is to prepare them to live a responsible life on their own, my responsibility to teach them God’s word is my most important role of all. My passion is to help set young women in motion for a lifetime of studying God’s word.
The question is how and where to start.
When you brought your baby home, you didn’t start your child out with whatever was on the family table. Their diet was milk, filled with exactly the nutrients they needed, in a way they could take in.
That’s what today girl needs: a steady diet of God’s Word, filled with exactly the nutrients her tender heart needs.
While teaching God’s word might seem intimidating, it doesn’t have to be! You don’t have to be a Bible scholar, know how to find out what the words mean in Hebrew and Greek and or own big Bible commentaries. What you do need is 2 – 3 minutes set apart each day to fill your girl with God’s truth.
I’ve got just the tool to help!
My free 7 Day Faith Builder, seven days of devotions straight from my new book “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” can be sent directly to your email box. These devotions are designed to speak to the issues that girls face each day; especially as school is back in full swing. You can receive these devotions free of charge! Just click here!
Should you find you want more than 7 days, you want 365 devos, just send your receipt for “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” before September 18th to freebies@lynncowell.com and you’ll receive a link with over $75 in free resources including three sessions from my “His Revolutionary Love” conference never before released!
Maybe you’re looking for a resource to last longer than seven days? “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year; 365 Days of Jesus’ Radical Love for You” is written specifically for girls ages 13 – 17, each day addressing issues close to a young girl’s heart such as body image, crushes, performance, and social media. “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” fills a girl’s heart with the truth that only Jesus’ can fill the love gap in her heart. Seeing God does have something to say about the important things in her world, she can establish a history with God and a pattern to last a lifetime.
In “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” I help young women to:
- Begin each day with truth from Jesus
- Develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus
- Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day
- Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
- Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings
- Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful
Would you invest in a young woman in your sphere today?

Wendy,
What a timely post! I am a teacher, and I see this need in my students. Thanks for sharing this wonderful resource with us!
Blessings!
You are so welcome! Thank you for teaching this next generation!!! I have a son in high school and am so thankful for teachers in our schools who are believers like you. What a blessing for your students and your school.
Wendy
Hello I would like to win a copy of this my daughter who is 16yrs old and about to be 17yrs old on Sept. 27. This would be a nice birthday gift.
First thing in the morning before my daughter got on the bus last year always worked well for me. Getting two on the bus this year has thrown me off. I’m attempting to utilize the lunch notes for this opportunity but my youngest is in first grade and can’t read every word yet. I need to make this a priority to share God’s Truth with my daughters.
Lunch notes!! I used to do that when my kids were in elementary school. Sometimes I would even write a personal note on the lunch note if the verse particularly spoke to something happening in their lives at that time. What a wonderful way to share the Word.

I have loved and served the middle school and high school girls in my church for the last 6 years. I have cried, prayed and encouraged them in every way God has shown me. I have seen so many ways that Jesus is faithful to them and me. The best and most meaning devotions I have had both with my 2 girls and the girls of the youth group had been late a night when they are more open to their feeling, wants and love of Jesus Christ. He has moved and relieved Himself to them and me when we open the Bible and our hearts to his message. Thank you for adding a tool to help reach the girls of this generation for Jesus.
Love in Christ,
Lynette
Lynette, praying the Lord will continue to bless you and give you great favor as you minister to young women. There is no better place to serve than pouring into the next generation!!
Blessings,
Wendy
Lynette, not only do we share a passion for teens, we share the same name too (only I have 2 n’s).
Thank you so much for pouring into these precious girls! You have the Father’s heart!
The best time of day for me to share God’s word with my kids is in the evening. I am already headed to work when they wake up.
Leigh, when my kids were young, I did our devotion and prayer time at night too. Now that my son is a freshman in high school, we read a devotional together in the morning and pray. We also memorize a verse each week.
W
I think night time can be best of all! They go to sleep with God’s word on their mind!
The best time for me is the evening, usually right after dinner. I have 2 teen girls and something always happens during the day and they need help getting “the situation” straightened out between their head and their heart through hearing what God says. I am very excited about this devo coming out! I will gladly add it to our conversations.
Our best time is over our bedtime Rosary – oh the amazing questions prompted through those maternal mysteries… thank you God for tucking the right words into my heart over the years and pulling them out for my babe when we need
Leslie, I love how you worded your prayer…God tucking His Word into our heart over the years. We cannot pour out what we do not have. We must be filling ourselves with the Word before we can ever teach it to our kids.
Blessings,
Wendy
Bedtime is a precious time!
The best ime of day for me to share more about God with my daughter would be first thing in the morning. Or maybe right before bed. Or even both! She’s only 11, but since her brothers are 12 and 9 years older than she is, she’s pretty mature for her age. I’ve picked up other books for her in the past, but never really stuck with reading them with her. This sounds like a perfect item to have ready to go under the tree at Christmas this year — when she’ll be just 1 1/2 months shy of 12.
Thanks so much, Lynn, for your heart for our daughters. You provide us the tools that make reaching and teaching them at their level so much easier and effective, God Bless!
This will be the PERFECT gift to keep her in the Word. She will connect with Lynn’s beautiful authentic heart.
W
I love this idea, Nancy! A year long devotional…perfect way to get a new year started!
I have the joy of serving as our church’s youth leader which presents me with ample opportunities to share with our young ladies. Once a week I pick up my niece from high school {I can’t believe she’s already in high school!!!!!}. I treat her to some Starbucks and some girl time together. We talk about school, boys, girls, and whatever else that’s important in her life right now. Throughout our convo, we talk about Jesus and His presence in every aspect of our lives, whether it’s giving our best in class {whether she likes the class or not} or dealing with others in a Christ pleasing way both in school…and on Facebook.
I so enjoy the time Bri and I have together, wishing it could be more, but trusting God with the time we do get to spend together.
I’m praying for all who use your devo, I’ve passed on the info to my youth parents, hoping that a few will take a closer look and use this opportunity
.
<3 Heather
Thanks for sharing Lynn’s devotional with your church family. All I can say is your girls are SO VERY BLESSED to have Heather Bleier pouring into their lives!!!
Love you,
me
Thank you SO much Heather! Word of mouth is the best way to share new tools!
Every girl needs an aunt like you; what an investor you are! You’ll see the fruit from it too!
I have been praying recently for God to show me the best way to spend time with my daughter in His word. My children and I read His word together every morning before school, but I would love this resource to spend one-on-one time with her, teaching her how to dig in for herself. Thank you for this wonderful resource and for your heart for teen girls, who face so much pressure in today’s world!
Valerie, God promises to answer our prayers. I love that He brought you here to read about this devotion just as you were praying for ways to get your daughter into the Word more. He is so faithful!
Blessings,
Wendy
Valerie, I love that you are already in the Word together! If you want something deeper than the 2 – 3 minute devotional, the two of you would really enjoy my book “His Revolutionary Love”. There is even a free leadership guide to go through it with her. Just go to my website and click on “freebies”.
In the morning over coffee my sweet daughter and I often share the things God is teaching us thru His word.
Awesome! Precious memories too!
Thanks to both of you for your online ministries! I often use the materials I find here in teaching my group of girls! May he who knows us continue to use us!
So glad we can come alongside you, Madel!
AMEN!! I too join you in praying that God will continue to use all of us!! And I love that because of the Internet, we are all interconnected and minister together. Praise God!!
Blessings,
Wendy
My children are adults now, but when they were younger I found that there were so many times throughout the day that were the “best times” for me to share God with them. One of my favorite times was Monday morning–I would write a scripture on the bathroom mirror for them to memorize that week. We all loved memorizing scripture together.
I think it is wonderful that you prepared this devotional for young girls!! I work with teen mothers and I know that teens today need loads of encouragement, love, and support.
Love that you wrote it on the mirror!!! That is so creative. Thanks for sharing.
W
Lora – thank you for investing in girls. All girls need a woman to come alongside them; this life is hard! Thank you for being one of those women!
I homeschool my kids and try to use any opportunity to fill them with the Word. We usually read the Word in the mornings so that it doesn’t get pushed out of the way by the activities of the day.
What a great pattern to start, Cheryl!
Great example to set for your children…to start their day in the Word. I have a friend who did this with her son, and he is now a senior in high school and does his own quiet time every day. That is amazing!!!
Blessings,
Wendy
Dear Lyn,
I had signed up for your 7 day devos and I have been so blessed! Although my daughter is only 9, your style helped me to open the lines of communication and to share God’s word in a way that was relevant and highly impactful. Thank you for the gift of YOU. Thank you for your heart in reaching these girls who (as I know from my own life) have God-sized holes in their hearts!
I don’t need to be in the drawing because I have Amazon credit (woohoo!) and I’ll be purchasing your book!
The special time I have with my daughter is in the morning before school. We make picnic breakfasts and eat it in the school’s parking lot really early. We have our Mom-daughter quiet times right after we eat, before she heads into the classroom.
Thank you again Lynn! Thank you Wendy for having Lynn as a guest. God bless both of you amazing Proverbs 31 ladies!!! With love and gratitude, Noelle
Love what you do with your sweet girl each morning. Another creative way to share the Word with our kids.
Just ordered your book off Amazon today. Just wish it was signed by you!! Perhaps you can fly out and sign it in person.
Love and miss you,
Wendy
Noelle…I am so glad you have liked the 7 Day Faith Builder. Would you share it with your friends too?
If you and your precious girl like my writing style, you would like “His Revolutionary Love” too. Again, it will help to open conversation that is important for Moms and girls! Check out my free leadership guide for it on my website under “freebies”.
Thanks friend!
The best time for me and our family right now is in the morning or on the way to school we are going to two different campus locations two and two and it is kind of crazy, my 9 year old is on fire for Jesus and I would love her to go deeper. My 17 year old step-daughter is on the path of totall rebellion and really needs to dig into God’s Word and walk the walk, she can talk the talk but it is so surface with her, her actions don’t follow her knowledge at all. Would love this as a birthday present for her. Thank you Lynn for your amazing work. And thank you Wendy for your amazing gifts and devotion to prayer.
Blessings,
karen
Karen, praying with you now for God to tender your 17 year-old’s heart to God’s Word…to give her a hunger for what He has to offer in His Word. Praying that as she opens this devotional book, she would connect with Lynn’s heart and trust her as she leads her through God’s truths and promises.
Blessings,
Wendy
Karen, don’t for one minute give up on your girl. When God’s word is planted, it has to grow…at some point! I’m counting on it; you do too
Thank you for sharing Lynn. The best time of day for me to share God’s word is in the evening, just before bed with my daughter’s- 9 and 11. We either do some type of devotion or read from the bible together and discuss it. It is so important for mom’s today to spend that time with our children to teach them about God, His word and the way we should be living. I am always looking for new avenues to keep my girls interested so this book will be great! I also just started an all girls, faith based club with my friend and this devotional would be great for our club meetings as well! I am so thankful for people like you Wendy and Lynn for sharing your God given talents with us. It would be so great to sit down in my living room with the two of you… we could probably chat for hours! May God bless you both so that you can keep on blessing us ladies!
~MIndy
I’d like that too Mindy! It is women like you that encourage women like me
Mindy, I would LOVE to sit and chat with a mom like you…who invests not only in your girls but the lives of girls around you. I pray God richly blesses the sweet ministry you have started.
Blessings,
Wendy
The best time for us would be at the dinner table or it would be great to have some discussion starters while driving in the car to extra curricular activities, school, and church.
Missy, it is a GREAT idea to use time spent driving in the car to talk about God stuff! Thanks for sharing.
W
Thank you for sharing this Wendy! I have a teenage niece and 2 girls here at home and I am always looking for good devotionals for them! This sounds like a wonderful addition! I was wondering if you were planning any new online Bible studies for the near future? I love them!
Thank you Sherri, I just completed a study and will be teaching it live here in Charlotte. Praying about doing it on-line. Thank you for the encouragement!!
Blessings,
Wendy
