Ushering in the New Year with Prayer {w/ Giveaways}

Welcome to LIVING TRUTH! Oh, how I’ve prayed for each one of you who stops by today!! A special welcome if you’re visiting from my Proverbs 31 Encouragement for Today devotion where I share my New Year’s Prayer for 2015 (at the end of the post, you will find a link to download a copy of that prayer).

As we usher in this New Year together, I invite you to join me in remembering the One to whom we lift our prayers.

His Name is Jesus. HE IS…

…” the One who is, the One who was, and the One who is coming.” Revelation 1:4 (The Voice).

Did you hear? He is coming.

And on that day He will come…

“riding on the clouds in all His glory.” Revelation 1:7

“eyes ablaze with fire and crowns adorning his head.”

“His name:… KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16.

On that day, Jesus will call our names, take our hands, and lead us into our heavenly home! I can only imagine how our hearts will swell as we pass through the gates and see what only Jesus’ beloved disciple John has seen.

Take a journey with me and let’s imagine…

I can hardly believe my eyes. All I’ve ever known is gone. Heaven and earth have passed away; the seas are gone. Everything is new! There, before me, is a holy city. It’s the New Jerusalem, descending from heaven.

The glory of the Lord shines all about. The city is made of pure gold, yet it is as clear as glass. The great wall around the city, adorned with the most precious of jewels, glimmers unlike anything I have ever seen.

I see no street lights or lamps. But there is no need because the Light of the World illumines every corner of the city, forbidding the darkness to enter.

The glory and grandeur of every nation is on display; people from around the world bringing glory and honor to the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Tears well up so thick. I can hardly take in what lies before me. A river of crystal clear living water, flows down from the throne of the Lamb. On each bank of the river stands the tree of life, firmly planted, bearing an abundance of plump, ripe fruit.

Surrounding me are worshipers, every race and every nation bowing before the throne of God and the Lamb of God. As I lift my eyes, I see my Creator and my Savior there before me. I’m in their presence. Awestruck wonder captivates my heart. I feel as if I can’t breathe. I had learned of God’s glory. I had prayed often for a touch of His glory. But now, I could do nothing but fall on my face before His Shekinah glory and join the throngs of worshipers bowing down before Him, casting their crowns at His feet.

I hear a great voice, coming from the throne::

“The home of God is now with His people. He will live among them; they will be His people, and God Himself will be among them. The prophecies are fulfilled: He has wiped every tear. No more death. No more mourning. No more crying. No more pain. The first things have gone away.”

And then I hear the One on the throne speak! A voice I have longed to hear announce to His creation:

“I am making ALL things new!”

Glory! Glory! It is all just as God said!

Glory! One day every knee will bow and tongue confess our JESUS IS LORD!

    I’m declaring over my life that God is doing something new and making a clear path. Father, help me embrace this new season and the changes 2015 will bring. Help me to let go of the previous season and embrace the new. In Jesus’ name, amen.

      My word for this year is NEW. I am letting go of the old and embracing the NEW – letting go of past hurts, anxieties, unfulfilled expectations, disappointments, etc. I’m laying down my fleshly desires with expectation of receiving His Grace to meet all my needs and some of my desires (some I probabl don’t even know I have). Embracing the NEW – a reNEWed mind and full heart to receive from my Abba and bless others.

    • Love those verses (Isaiah 43:14)! Thank you Jan! I pray that God will indeed do a new thing in my heart, my marriage and my family. I will be claiming that verse and praying Wendy’s New Year’s Prayer as I am struggling to deal with, or possibly leave, a marriage that is disappointing at best and emotionally and verbally destructive at its worst moments.

  8. My prayer is for restoration. I am thankful Lord that you make all things new and for the promise that you will repay all the locusts have eaten. I pray for strength and peace and for continued whispers and confirmation from the Holy Spirit. Most importantly, I lift all who need to give their lives and hearts to Christ. Matthews 18:18-20 says “if two or more come to me in prayer here on earth our Father goes into action. The words of this song reverberate this new years day and are my prayer along with this promise I hold onto from Isaiah 43: I am the Lord who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea……. But forget all that- it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do a brand new thing. See I have already begun. I thank you Lord today 1st Jan 2015.   15. My prayer for 2015 is to stand up to the call/challenge to be strong and courages. Trust God with the overwhelming trials, plus new circumstances I am facing. As Joshua, with faith in God I will go forward holding the boton of His Word to lead me daily one step at a time. Amen

    I thank you for bringing me safely through 2014! I thank you for covering my hurts, my disappointments, my failures and my poor choices. I thank you for your forgiveness of my sin. I thank you for your blessings and for faith to trust your Word. You have been my light, my confidence and my surety. In You I am steadfast and unmoveable in my faith. In 2015 I will relocate from Northern Virginia to Albuquerque, NM and begin a new job. I pray and ask You for protection, your guidance and your wisdom. I pray that You will bless me with discernment and eyes and ears to hear your voice. I pray that You will give me wisdom, compassion and understanding for the people that I will lead and the services I will provide to my customers.   20. Bar none… my favorite part of waking up early on New Year’s day is to pray along with you, Wendy, and the biggest “small” group of girlfriends. Both of your posts- here and your P31 devo- have captured my heart beyond description. Thank You for sharing wisdom that seems too good to be true… but it is the TRUTH! God is wild for each of us individually. And the picture you painted of heaven truly brought Revelation 21 and 22 alive. With all of us having such marvelously unique personalities, I can’t help but wonder how personalized our heavenly home will be. I’ve never considered that until your posts!

    Thank You for opening the heavens through Wendy’s ministry. Thank You for the way she helps us usher in a new year… marching into this first day of the first month of 2015 singing our praises to You. Thank You that You are absolutely wild for us. Help me to number my days today and this entire year that I may gain a heart of wisdom. Help me to soak in Your love… the love that is so lavish, that You run to me, leaving Your dignity in order to save my dignity… the love that smothers me with hugs and kisses… that puts a ring on my finger and shoes on my feet and throws a party. I know the more this truth sinks into my heart, the more my natural response with be to love You and others with all my heart, soul and strength.   21. What a beautiful description of our entry into our eternal home! It touched my tender heart, as I still ache from the loss of my husband one year ago. What comfort and joy to know that although his exit from this earth was difficult, his arrival in his forever home was instantaneous and glorious! And I will see him again!

    Thank you Wendy for sharing! Such an uplifting way to start the New Year! I often think about how Amazing and Humbling it will be too to look upon the face of our Lord and Savior. What a blessed day that will be! I lost my mom last year and my dad is battling cancer. I have so many friends who are facing it too and it’s so heart wrenching. I cannot wait to get to Heaven with no more pain or suffering. One of my favorite songs is from Casting Crowns, Wedding Day. It illustrates a perfect picture of how it will be to look upon Jesus’ face and the love he has for us!

    I just love you! I was so blessed reading your Proverbs 31 email and then clicking on your blog and getting an extra boost of all the splendor of our wonderful King! I have had 2 Cor 5:17 running around in my head for a couple days now, and while it is a New Year, it’s a new day and I am new! Old things have passed away, ALL things become new! My prayer for this new season is, to love more, to listen better and to be quick to forgive. I want to see my 2 boys serving God, a new and wonderful job for myself, my finances increasing, my own place for me and my 2 children, and a new car. Most of all, I pray that my relationship with our King, grows deeper each day, until I’m drowning in His love!

  34. Father God, I lift up my husband to you right now. Thank you Jesus, for giving me such an amazing man to share this life with!! But Lord, I’m tired of worrying about his salvation, and I give those worries to you right now. YOU, Father, are the only one who can save Him, and I realize I sometimes try to play God when it comes to my family. Please forgive me. Help me to be no more than a beacon of YOUR Light. Lord, I ask for you to initiate his faith this year. May 2015 be the year he finally opens not only his mind, but his heart to You and accepts Your Love as the free gift it is. Jesus, I pray he is overwhelmed in your love and mercy. And help the rest of our family continue to be overwhelmed with You daily and for all of our lives to be to Your glory! In Jesus Name, Amen!

    Thank you for the beautiful prayer and message! This is truly a blessing to receive such inspiration right in my email box to my heart!

    My prayers this new year include peace in our country and in the world’s war torn regions. I pray for those specifically struggling with illnesses, addictions, unemployment, family problems, domestic violence, and the loss of loved ones.
    There are so many people hurting. God knows who they are, where they are, and what they need.

    I thank Jesus for helping me this year as I battled breast cancer. My treatment continues, and so does God’s presence in my life as He comforts and gives us strength in the midst of despair. I pray for others who are also fighting this battle. I know that God allowed my cancer in order to prepare me to serve and encourage others who are going through the same. God uses these experiences in our lives to
    grow our faith and to bring us closer to Him. God has blessed me in some
    very unexpected ways during this journey, and I do not ask God “Why me?”
    He is teaching me that He has blessed me through this experience and is changing
    my life for the better. So, how could this be a bad thing?
    Romans 8:28 says,
    “All things work together for the good for those who are called according to His purpose.”

    • Ann, what precious and powerful prayers you have prayed. I stand in agreement with each one.   54. The New Year’s prayer really spoke to me this morning. As I was contemplating resolutions this year, I realized the only thing I wanted was to make a promise…to focus on Jesus and God’s purpose for my life. After fasting for the last 2 weeks of 2014, I am undertaking a deeper focus on my role, responsibility, and reward as the godly wife & mother that God is calling me to be….despite the fact that my husband is an alcoholic (PRAISE GOD…he has 30days without a drink). NO MATTER what my circumstances, or the behavior/attitudes/beliefs/thoughts/choices/ETC of those in my home (hubby and 2 teenage sons with some quirks of their own)…GOD calls me to respond in obedience to Him and to grow in my relationship with Him, my hubby, and my boys! SO,this NEW YEAR,..I am focusing on increasing my prayer life, doing 4 Bible studies during my lunch hour (each study =3 months), praying that my hubby will join me on Wed Nights to focus on our recovery of anything that is keeping us individually from God, going to do Love Dare (couple’s & parent’s versions) with the 3 males that God has blessed me with…..and focusing on the verses that I believe He is calling me to memorize, tuck into my hears, and LIVE DAILY……Proverbs 31, Titus 2:3-5, Galatians 5:22-23, and 1st Corinthians 13:4-8!!

      I knew the concept was verse-based but had to search it out. I will work on walking out Philippians 1:6 this year. That the action for this year would be based on that verse is even better because it was the verse given to me at the first convocation I went to with the church I started attending after I received my salvation.

My tears filled a river! Please relieve me of my fear, make me more like You and less fearful, more trusting.I also specifically, pray for my boys to want to be more like Jesus and to want and enjoy devotion time, and prayer time in this new year. I thank God for the small changes I saw in just the last two days in my youngest son in regard to prayer, and for the kind act I learned my oldest did while at school-baby steps but steps are good if they are bringing us to be closer and more like Jesus!

  128. Happy New Year, Wendy. I am struggling this year because my youngest son is addicted to heroin
    and got arrested right after Christmas. He spent New Year’s in jail and I cannot post his bond because I fear that, if he gets out, he will overdose and die. I am exhausted, fearful, angry, and relieved all at the same time. At least with him in jail, my husband and I do not have to wonder where he is and what he’s doing, and we don’t have to worry what awful news will be delivered each time the phone rings. I must believe that what is happening now is part of God’s plan to make my boy realize all that he is losing each time he sticks that needle in his arm. I pray constantly for God’s peace in dealing with all that will come, and that my son will embrace Jesus and turn his life around.

    • Dana, I pray God will continue to lead and guide you as you work with your son through this difficult trial. And I pray that when you make these hard decisions, God will give you PEACE in your heart to know you are doing what is best. And I pray that in this process, God will bring believers across his path who can connect him with Jesus in a way that he can understand. I pray God will use these trials to draw him closer to Jesus and to the LOVE and PEACE and HOPE that can be found only in Him.

    God revealed this verse to me after trust was broken in a relationship. He has been teaching me to trust Him and not the person. He promises He will do a new thing…even in this relationship…because restoration brings glory to Him!

  156. As the clock struck midnight all I could do is cry. 2014 was such a rough year. Several family deaths, then realizing that all the older members of my famiy, parents included are in the later stages of life, two major surgeries for my mom, (I am the care giver), best Jesus friend moved 2000 miles away, and my other best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Top that off with a business that is in financial trouble. But when I woke up this morning I had a text from my Jesus friend with 2 Cor 1:4. It reminded me that God puts people in our lives to help us get through the tough times. I reazlized the good things that happened this yeat and I thanked God for those things. Business wisde we made it through this year, bnot out of the woods yet but I have faith. I am still 30 years cancer free, I was discharged from the doctor no more blood thinners. I need to remind myself daily, all day to just trust in God

  163. I just happened to stumble across this blog today. For that, I am thankful. God is good. I too am excited about the possibilities a new year brings. This is my last year in my thirties. I have many things, relationships, situations that need healing and new life. I have reached out to God before, I’ve accepted Christ as my saviour, but I have never truly committed all of my life the aforementioned situations to Him. I always hold back. I was brought to tears reading this blog and the comments. I believe our Lord has certainly sent a message. He desires and will make all things New.     CONFIDENCE – free and fearless confidence before God. I had been reading the book Move On by Vicki Courtney, and had realized that I live a lot of my life in shame. But I didn’t want my word to be no shame, I needed something positive. I read through three scriptures God had given me, Hebrew 4:6,1John 3:21, snd Hebrews 10:19. The common word was confidence, let us then with confidence draw near, we have confidence before God, since we have confidence to enter. So, I’m having this as my word for the year to have confidence before God, as he has taken my sin snd shame to the cross. One of the strongs definitions is free and fearless confidence.I want this year to be a growing in and firmly standing on a free and fearless confidence before God.

  181. Thank you for your post. Life in my relationship with my husband has been trying over the past several years, including family drama. Devastation, sin, his decisions to isolate, to close his mind and heart to Jesus – His mom, death from complications of Alzheimer’s. He left on Dec. 30th. There are no words to describe – yet God holds me…and he promises to come back, and there will be no more sorrow or tears….

  194. My heart is moving into the New Year praying this scripture in Ephesians for other people and for myself. Seeking God’s guidance in praying other scripture for people as well through 2015. Putting their names in the scripture really makes it personal and so real.

This year I will love them more, and pray more about how You want to change me, instead of worrying about their lives they are living in the world. Jesus, I ask that You help me love You more than ANYTHING or ANYBODY. Lord please give me a desire to obey You with all You call me to do, and give me wisdom about what things to say “no” to.     I’m so thankful I saw your lovely inspired words from our Father today in my Proverbs 31 email 🙂 I’m trying to think less about myself and more of others, and this past two weeks have been challenging because I’ve been more ill than usual with pneumonia and a sinus infection, so, it’s really difficult to put myself aside and just even take care of my lovely daughter, not to mention “help” someone else. I am encouraged to simply follow the Spirit’s guidance without a second thought or a single doubt or question. I feel so much stronger and more able to put myself aside and to fully surrender the whole of who I am and how I think and feel over to the One who is able to do more abundantly than I could ever do with my simple faulty strength or thoughts. I am so thankful our God is bigger and more capable than we could ever fathom or know, He is my peace and source of all things good and perfect. This is truly all about you Lord, not me. Thank you for uplifting my heart, I am so grateful to you!!

I was drawn to the words in the prayer–“Draw me close so that I can hear even the faintest of Your whispers. Ignite a fire in my heart for more of You. Infuse me with the fullness of Your Holy Spirit power so I can be Your vessel, fully available.” My word for the year is Hope. My verse of the year will be Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

    The word that I have chosen for 2015 is “productive” as in 2 Peter 1:3-11 (NLT) –
    3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
    5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

    My New Year’s prayer is that my children, grandchildren, brother and his family, other family members, and friends will come to know Christ in a more personal way. That the Lord will touch their lives with answered prayers, blessings, and good health. I pray for my church and its members and all churches to know a revival in 2015 that has never been seen before. I also pray for our country and our world. That our Lord will intervene and heal some of the brokenness of this world. I pray for all of the abused and hurting people, families, and even the animals that God created to find some peace in this world. I pray for those in the military whose lives are on the line to protect ours and for their families. I pray for all those who have lost loved ones and know the grief of such a loss. I also ask that those doing the Lord’s work, such as Proverbs 31, will be able to reach even more people this year than ever before. I ask for forgiveness of my sins and for healing in different areas of my life. I ask the Lord to bless me and give the fortitude, obedience, and productivity to continue forward with His work. I pray for wisdom to help myself and others come to know Him more fully, to discipline myself for a daily devotion and prayer life, and to finally find my “gift” to give in His name. In all this I pray in Jesus sweet name.

I have truly been struggling these last few months knowing how that should look. My husband and I took on 2 foster kids in Sept and are really struggling with how it has impacted our lives and our son who is a freshman in High School. I want to do what is right for the Foster kids, for my son, for my husband but above all for God but Im just not sure what that looks like.   245. Wendy, this spoke to me TODAY! I spent NYE in bed, facing an overwhelming depression that seem to come out of nowhere. I have several things coming my way in 2015, they are blessings and great opportunities – including publishing my 1st book, but they are challenging me and I came to a place of fear of even having them come to fruition. I began feeling so unworthy, incompetent and doubting that God would actually use me and then I read yesterday’s devotion today and it confirmed what my friend and mentor had spoken into my life this morning through a recording she sent me yesterday. Its so funny, that I did not “look” for God or encouragement yesterday, but this morning I prayed to receive what God had for me and shortly after, I have heard two of the most INSPIRING, UPLIFTING, an ENCOURAGING messages of life and God’s truth – reminding me of WHO HE IS and WHO I AM IN HIM!!!

    Thank you…for being a vessel, for being obedient and for being YOU! I want to learn to pray as you do and I plan to download your prayer and say it each morning until I know it by heart, it speaks to my spirit in such an amazing way!

    I felt like your prayer so complimented what I have been thinking about for this new year.
    Rev. 19:7. The Bride has prepared herself.
    I want to prepare myself. I want to know the groom and to love him more and trust him completely with my life. Surrendering all to experience more. More of Christ, less of me. And then being so filled by his love that I shine and beam for my first love, not hesitating to tell anyone who asks the reason for joy. My love. Christ within me the Hope of Glory.

  257. Today, has been a very powerful day in my life. After a not-so-good divorce, I have been living in the basement of an old office building that a very dear friend manages ~ for three years. I have finally been able to afford a small studio apartment, that I am in the midst of moving into. That our Lord has always watched over, blessed and protected me has always been in the forefront of my thoughts. It was a very emotional day as I unpacked things that have been untouched for many years, and I was giving them a place to stay ~ in “my Home”. As I was beginning to unpack and savor putting each thing in it’s place. I realized that I was being told that there was still a small lingering doubt hiding deep within me, that I never really had recognized, before. I was being told that, after having been given so very much, how could I possibly still have any doubt left in me, and to let it go. I heard the words clearly, I was being told to not to allow any doubting thoughts to come into my mind, and if I felt them trying to sneak in, to command them to leave me in in His Precious
    Name! New home, new year, new life, and a renewed spirit. A good start to 2015. :o}

      “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert… Because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, My Chosen. This people I have formed for myself. They shall declare My praise.” (Isaiah 43:18-21)

  258. This is the first time I have been on the Proverbs 31 site and I want you to know how thankful I am for you and the beautiful New Years prayer. My family has gone through the most difficult year in 2014 and my heart has grown weary. So much stress, anxiety, pressure, worry, depression and trials. Your words and your prayer were such an encouragement to me as I start this new year, wanting to put my focus once again on the Lord and putting my complete trust in Him for peace and guidance. The next couple of months we will be having to make many important decisions and I want each and every one to be made through the guidance of the Lord. Thank you for encouragement and blessing.

  262. Hi! My prayer is for my daughters. Especially my oldest who is a sexual assaukt survivor x2. Once as a 4 yo and once as a 6th grader. She is now 18. We have weathered quite a few emotional storms this year. I am hoping there will be continued healing and growth this year. That she will continue to become the woman God wants her to be. And that her younger sister who adores big sister will continue to grow in her own gifts and talents. Amen! Thxs for letting me share 🙂

Hello, Im new to your blog here and wanted to say thank you for being such a blessing to me as well. 2014 was filled with a lot of pain, rejection, & feeling used…but I serve a BIG GOD & I know the plans he has for me as I keep moving forward in HIM.   266. My prayer is to be more intimate with God and my husband, that God opens the door to a new & better job, and the time to write the book He wants me to write. His word for me this year is NEW ( Isaiah 43:18-19) and I pray that my eyes will be open to see the new things He has in store for me.
