A New Year’s Prayer for You

2012 is a new year, and it’s time for a new you.  Isn’t that the message we see and hear everywhere…magazines, television, the Internet?

What is on your heart for this new year?  What would you like to accomplish?  What would you like to change?

For years, I made New Year’s Resolutions.  But I a few years ago, I gave up because  I could never keep them.  One year, instead of a resolution, the Lord led me to write a prayer.  Throughout that year, I watched in amazement as God worked in my life and in the lives of others through my simple prayer.

Today, I would like to pray for you.  As you read this prayer, know it is written with great love for you.  Take some time to sit with the Lord.  Use this prayer as a model and personalize it.

You are the King of kings and Lord of lords, Sovereign over all things.

You know each precious heart drawn here today.

You planned to meet her.  You created her heart.

You know her every need, her deepest desires, her scars, and her open wounds.

Lord, I ask that in this New Year, You would fall afresh on her.

You are Holy and call us to be holy.

Yet, we confess that so often our hearts wander far from You.

Our speech does not glorify You, and our actions do not honor You.

Tender our hearts to receive the words Your sweet Spirit has to speak to us.

Clothe us with humility.  Take away our desire to always be right and have our own way.

Help us to seek You first  in all that we say and do.

Help us to submit to Your Word and allow it to penetrate those deep places in our hearts that resist change.

If necessary, put us through the refiner’s fire to burn off those character traits that keep us from walking in step with You.

Give us hearts that love and seek after Truth above all else.

Give us wisdom and discernment to reject the lies of this world and recognize the guiles of the evil one.

Guide us into all Truth. Guard our hearts and keep our eyes fixed on You.

Fill us with the fruit of your Spirit  to make us more like You.

As we study Your Word, fill us and saturate us with the fullness of Your Holy Presence.

Today we surrender our thoughts, our speech, and our hearts.

Thank You that You are Faithful and True.

We trust You to do a mighty work in and through us this year.

Thank You that what You begin, You will carry on to completion until the day we step into eternity with You.

Help us to trust in You with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding.

Help us to acknowledge You in all our ways so that we can obey when we hear,

“This is the way, walk in it.”

We love You and thank You that You love us.

May our lives be a living testimony of You.

We ask this in the powerful and mighty name of your Son,

Jesus Christ our Lord, who will do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could ever ask or imagine.

As you spend time with the Lord in prayer, look up these verses and claim their promises as you pray:

Philippians 4:19

Ephesians 6:17-18

Mark 11:24

Place this prayer or your personalized prayer in your Bible or journal.  Pray boldly and confidently to our Great High Priest, believing He is ABLE to do all that you lay before Him.  Wait expectantly.  Journal when you see His Hand at work in your midst.

If you feel led, please share all or part of your personalized prayer with us so we can be praying for one another.

Also, feel free to share this prayer with your friends and family.  May God use it to open doors to healing and new beginnings!

I am so very thankful for your friendship and fellowship.  Please know I will be praying for you in this New Year and look forward to the second half of our Hebrews study.

See you on January 9th!

Praying each of you has a Blessed and Joyous New Year,

  1. KAY PARRISH says

  2. Sweet Wendy, thank you so very much for these prayers. I too will be printing this and adding it to my prayer journal.
No resolutions here either. Instead, I will do a list of things I want to accomplish in the New Year 2012 and steps I will take to make those a reality.
#1 A deeper and more personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.
(daily readings of my Bible, Bible studies, prayers and more prayers)
#2 Improve my health by eating healthier and become more physically active.
(eating more fruits, veggies, eliminate sweets and white products, stick with a set daily calorie intake, walk more, do aerobics…just move my body).
#3 Be more compassionate to my fellowman. Forgive more easily. Give more of myself.
(do not jump to conclusions, give everyone a chance to explain, forgive the unforgiveable, help my fellowman when I see a need).
    These are my top 3.
A very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year to you and your family Wendy.

  3. Wendy, I remember when I first learned this idea from you two years ago. You have gifted my life beyond measure. I’m proud to say, I seek to follow in your footsteps in so many ways. I’m so excited to spend my quiet times working on my personalized prayers for me, my husband, our daughter and our daughter to come. I love you!

  4. Happy new Year everyone.
Could everyone who feels led please pray for my family and myself. I am struggling with not having confidence and wanting to feel wanted and loved. I hate it because I don’t act appropriately sometimes at work and I am scared. I feel really insecure about myself also.
    thank you

    • Abba, tender Jeannie’s heart to accept Your love… to have an understanding that You chose her above all nations… that she’s a marvelous workmanship… that You adore her, You love her, she’s precious, she’s beautiful. Help her by guiding her with Your Spirit throughout her day, as she interacts with her family and as she goes about her work… in everything she does, let her have the foundation of self-worth because she was created and chosen by You. When she gets tempted to act inappropriately, show her the way out of that temptation, and bring her to Your open arms. Give her the resources and people she needs to heal any brokenness in her heart. Protect her family as she works through these struggles of self-worth that all of us battle. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!

Jeannie, did you see that there’s a study on A Confident Heart led by Renee Swope using her book “A Confident Heart: How to Stop Doubting Yourself and Live in the Security of God’s Promises”? Maybe that’s a resource that can help?

Huge hug to you beautiful friend!

    • Debbie Rigsbee says

Jeannie, I am praying for you friend!

    • Jeannie~
I did A Confident Heart by Renee Swope and it was AMAZING! I had been wrestling with insecurities about myself and struggling with some significant doubts. It took alot of prayer and Bible study, but God used that book to speak to me and free me from those bondages.
      Praying for you!!!!

    • Praying for you, Jeannie. “Self Talk, Soul Talk” by Jennifer Rothschild is a great book to check out.

  5. Wendy, let’s just see how much I can fill up your comments section 🙂 I just wanted to tell you that I feel very led to send your prayer to many of my girlfriends. This is one that, like Kay says, needs to be printed out. I can see this in the front of all of our prayer/quiet time journals. So, I think I’ll be printing it out and maybe head out to a shop to buy beautiful journals to put this in. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the gift of YOU and the gifts you continue to shower on all of our lives. You’re changing this world one woman (or 3,000) at a time. God has shown His majesty through your humble wisdom coupled with grace beyond words. I’m sending you a huge California hug! xoxo

  6. Thank you for this New Year’s Prayer. I have enjoyed your “blog”, your Bible Studies very much in 2011 and I look forward on how God “uses you” in 2012 – as well as myself. HAPPY BLESSED NEW YEAR!!!

  7. Happy New year sisters in Christ, I have always made new years resolutions but rarely keeping them and then feeling depressed and defeated. It wasn’t until I got to be an adult did I realize I wasn’t alone on a more wider scale. Knowing I wasn’t the only one who hadn’t kept them made me feel a little better.
Then over the lat few days I did a study on past present and starting over. And one of them was on resolutions – With the scripture James 4 :13-15. Instead of saying we are going to do this or that today or tomorrow , we should say If the Lord wills we will go here and there and do this and that. And that’s what I am going to. While planning is good we need to give God the Glory and praise that we are here another day.

So that’s what I am going to work on. Because I’m taking classes for ministry and studying Hebrews, psalms and made to crave on the side from reg studies. I am going to spend at least 10 minutes a day in God’s Word and praise before i start my day. I am eager to see what each day holds.

  8. I love this prayer. I am planning to print it out when I get home. My main area I want to work on in 2012 is to be able to hear my Father’s voice more clearly than all the other voices in my head, bombarding every decision I make. The key to this: MORE OF THE WORD!! And I’m keen to get back into this great study of Hebrews. Thanks, Wendy. “See” you next week!

  9. Dear Wendy, this is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for leaning into Him and hearing His heart for His girls. Love this, love you!!

    xoxo, Sam

  10. Elsa Killian says

Thank you, LORD for this BEAUTIFUL PRAYER that you put in this PROVERBS 31 WOMAN. I receive it with an opened mind and HEART. Thank you Wendy
    God Bless you.

  11. Thank you Wendy. This prayer is so beautiful. I to will print it out. I would like you to pray for me that my body will heal from 2 surgeries I had in Oct that still hasn’t healed. Next week my doctor is going to put a Wound Vac on to see if that helps and my daughter got married in June and wants to have a baby. Thank you and I pray you have a blessed year.

  12. Bless the Lord God…O my soul and all that is within me…Bless HIS Holy Name!!! New Years Blessings to you and thank you for this prayer!!!

  13. Wendy~
This is always:) You are a treasure!!!! So thankful for you:)
I, as well, don’t make resolutions per se; however, i do try to have a word or phrase for the year. This year, my word is “intentional” be intentional with my relationships with friends, co-workers and others that cross my path~Intentional in being Salt and Light. 2011 was a year for me to dwell on growing my faith deeper (my phrase for 2011 was “deeply rooted” based on Psalm 1) and some parts of 2011, I needed to hybernate so to speak. But since about November, the Lord has been burdening and imprinting on my heart to be intentional with the people He has surrounded me with.
My main “faith goal” is to complete the 1 Year Chronological Bible…I am excited to read the Bible in this format…I have never read it straight through, so I am excited:)
    Happy 2012!!!

  14. Thank you so much for this, Wendy. May you be blessed for your willingness to pray for us, and may 2012 be a year of great peace for you.

    – Suzanne

  15. Thank you, Wendy, for this inspirational post. I want to use your beautiful prayer, personalise it and put in my journal. And then, faithfully expect God to work in me and through me.

Have a blessed New Year, Sisters, filled with the Lord’s presence and abounding in His great gifts.

  16. Wendy, your prayer and suggested scripture warmed my heart. I sent by txt the verses to my daughters for encouragement. Today I read a scripture verse John 1:35-37 and I thought of you. You are the voice calling out to me, leading me to Jesus, the Lamb of God. The disciples heard and followed. I pray that I too, along with my fellow sisters in this study, hear the words God has given you and follow. Thanks for being open to being Gods servant and blessing all of us in your ministry. I have grown immensely in these past few weeks!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Wendy! I truly appreciate this. God is so good! I printed this out before going to church on New Year’s Eve, and it’s amazing how so many of the things that your prayer spoke about is also what the pastor spoke about that evening. Thank you!

    • Thanks for sharing this with me. I LOVE when God works like that…speaking to us about the same things through different avenues!
